HIV/AIDS Programs

Empowering communities to prevent HIV, support those living with HIV, and end the epidemic by 2030.

Fighting HIV/AIDS With Compassion and Courage

VIFFA is committed to reaching the most marginalized communities in Africa with compassionate, human-rights-based HIV/AIDS programs. While the epidemic started in 1969 in the USA, Africa has suffered the greatest toll, particularly Sub-Saharan Africa.

Over 40 years into this crisis, scientific advances in prevention and treatment have progressed, yet stigma remains a major barrier. VIFFA works at the intersection of health equity and human rights, guided by the principle that “unless all of us are free, none of us is free.”

Rooted in Communities, Driven by Experience

Our programming is deeply community-centered. VIFFA team members are often lived-experience experts, having been personally affected by HIV/AIDS as survivors, caregivers, or family members of those infected.

Our motto: “Nothing for us without us.” This ensures our interventions are relevant, empathetic, and effective. We focus on:

  • Awareness and testing campaigns

  • Treatment adherence and support

  • Community education and stigma reduction

Reaching Those Most at Risk

HIV prevalence is higher among sex workers, MSM, and people who inject drugs. VIFFA collaborates with governments, civil society, and community leaders to:

  • Identify hotspots in major towns and high-risk areas

  • Establish Drop-In-Centers (DICs) for easy access

  • Form teams of local community health workers for outreach

  • Offer operational hours tailored to clients’ schedules

  • Link patients to treatment and other health facilities

Community-Facility Linkage Model

VIFFA identifies disease hotspots, establishes Drop-In-Centers, and deploys trained community health workers. Our community-facility linkage model ensures:

  • Patients receive essential health services and public health information

  • Timely referrals to health facilities for treatment or complications

  • Coordination with government and NGO partners for monitoring and support

Measurable Progress Toward Ending HIV/AIDS

VIFFA’s programs follow the 95-95-95 targets:

  • 95% aware of their HIV status

  • 95% of those positive on treatment

  • 95% of those on treatment virally suppressed

By targeting both generalized and high-risk populations, and combining prevention, testing, treatment, and education, we are driving measurable impact toward ending the epidemic by 2030.
